SIBU: The Resident Councillorship System (RCS) is an ideal avenue for local authorities to reach out to the people and find solutions to their problems, says Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce Tuanku Mohamad.
He believes that RCS helps build cohesiveness and foster closer rapport between the local government and the community.
“I am confident that RCS will help strengthen the cooperation between the council and the people to collectively work together to make a better Sibu,” he said in officiating at the RCS-9 Programme conducted by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) at Lakis Hall here
Wan Hamid also believed that RCS would help raise public awareness of the threats posed by Covid-19, dengue and rabies, and also of the necessary preventive measures.
He stressed about the vital role played by councillors in helping to solve people’s problems.
“Perhaps, councillors could reach out to village security and development committees (JKKKs) and community leaders, bringing them to the council to discuss and work out solutions to the problems affecting their respective villages or other areas,” he suggested.
Wan Hamid also called upon councillors to have information about Sibu ready at their fingertips and give full support to SMC chairman Clarence Ting.
Meanwhile, the RCS-9 programme included a briefing on fire prevention, a fire demonstration, and also talks on Covid-19 and rabies.
Among those present were SMC councillors Siao Sing Tiong, Jimmy De Rozario and Ibrahim Laili.
